Coffee Producers & Importers Raise More Than $53,000 for Women’s Health Programs at Origin
Green coffee and coffee equipment/services auctioned for charity
Now in its eighth year, the Grounds for Health Auction continues to rally the coffee industry behind the health of women in coffee-growing communities. This year the online event, which auctions off small lots of green coffee, as well as top-of-the-line equipment and services, raised $53,221 for Grounds for Health. All proceeds benefit the international non-profit and its women’s healthcare programs in Latin America and East Africa.
As one of Grounds for Health’s largest fundraisers of the year, twenty-seven coffee producers and importers donated over 14,000 pounds of premium green coffee. Colombia’s Hacienda El Roble led the way, setting a new auction record with a final bid of $61.80/lb for a 30-pound box of its famed HR-61 NOP, which was generously donated by Hacienda El Roble and Caravela Coffee. InterAmerican Coffee’s Ethiopia Geisha Horizon RFA was the auction’s highest grossing lot, earning $3,049 (28 bids, $11.55/lb), while auction mainstays Finca El Injerto (88 bids, $35/lb) and Hacienda La Esmeralda (71 bids, $52.40/lb) performed strongly in late bidding to round out the top four.
The Grounds for Health Auction also featured a selection of coffee equipment and services that proved popular with roasters across the country. From a one-year CoffeeCourses.com Coffee Pro Membership donated by Boot Coffee to a BUNN Trifecta Brewer, equipment and services helped take the auction total over $50,000.
