Pura Vida

I love this picture. I think it really captures the spirit of the auction– producers giving back the fruits of their labor to support Grounds for Health’s projects at origin. When Dietrich Eppe, of E&H Sucafe, heard about the auction; he coordinated with several cooperatives who all enthusiastically agreed to donate 5 bags each to the auction. In the picture below you can see Mr. Eppe and Jose Angel (of Coopepalmares) with the 35 bags of Costa Rican micro lots before they were loaded onto a container and shipped away to Oakland, CA.
The coffee arrived this week. We cupped them. We loved them.

Here’s a look at what’s available:

Costa SHB Palmares Especial pulped natural 100% honey, donated by Coopepalmares. Cup: Caramel sweetness and some strawberry acidity.

Costa SHB San Isidro Women-owned pulped natural, donated by Coopepalmares. Cup: Thick, butterscotch molasses and amaretto sweetness.

Costa SHB Garabito Tarrazu pulped natural 50% honey, donated by E&H Sucafe. Cup: Heavy, full body with sugarcane and milk chocolate.

Costa SHB Washed Dota Tarrazu, donated by Coope Dota. Cup: a classic Tarrazu, pure singular flavor, clean, excellent balance of medium acidity and body.

Costa SHB Chirripo, donated by CoopeAgri R.L. Cup: Good balance, smooth, brisk.

Costa La Pastora Tarrazu, donated by Coope Tarrazu. Cup: Classic, clean, bright, sweet, fresh flavor.

Costa Washed SHG Santa Rosa, donated by CIA Santa Rosa. Cup: Clean, bright, black olive nose.
